themagazineexpert Ltd is an exciting new consultancy practice designed to help publishers expand and businesses launch their own editorial content.
Based near Dorchester, themagazineexpert is the brainchild of media specialist Mary Hogarth following her book How To Launch A Magazine In This Digital Age.
Mary has become the Dorset County Show’s latest sponsor in a show of commitment to the local community as well as to raise the profile of the new business.
Recently launched, the consultancy aims to help small publishers grow existing or new titles while also supporting business that want to expand by developing either a magazine or eNewsletter.
“People – be it customers, members or associates – want to feel valued,” says Mary Hogarth, director of themagazineexpert. “Customer publishing provides a great opportunity not just to connect but enhance an existing relationship.
“Most organisations publish some form of content, but few make it work effectively for them,” explains Mary, who is passionate about magazine publishing. “Good editorial content needs to be relevant, it must entertain, inform and educate.
“Remember the audience as well as your brand’s DNA should be at the heart of everything you do – be it a magazine, eNewsletter or online posts.”
A media strategist, educator, and public speaker, Mary has nearly 20 years experience including stints on national titles.
She has been involved in the launch of four magazines – two were new titles, the others re-launches. As former Managing editor of Weddings Today and deputy editor of Writer’s Forum, Mary gained extensive knowledge of all aspects of magazine publishing – from new launches, to how to grow an existing title.
During her time at Southampton Solent University she led the Features Journalism programme while offering consultancy on a freelance basis. Her practice covers all aspects of magazine publishing – from editorial and audience engagement to online strategies and business development.
