Dorset Patchworks

Dorset Patchworks is the love-child of Devi Chapman, a mother of two and resident of Bridport on Dorset's beautiful Jurassic Coast.

Interested in the creative crafts since childhood, Devi was inspired to start quilting by a project at her children's primary school.  One of a group of parents helping to make a giant quilt as a retirement gift for the long-serving head teacher, she was struck by the enjoyment and satisfaction all the children and teachers found in creating a design, in cutting and sewing their own patches and, above all, in contributing to a collective endeavour.  When you realise that the quilt top was made by a large group children aged between 7 and 10 years, the final result was truly amazing to behold and made a memorable and fitting leaving present involving everyone at the school.  See below for a photograph of the finished quilt.

Supported by a friend who coordinated this inspirational project, Devi made her first quilt and in no time she'd caught the bug!

From her home workshop in Dorset, Devi produces a range of quilted products including bed covers, cot covers, cushion covers and wall hangings to suit a variety of tastes.  Many are vibrant in colour with modern geometric designs.  Others are in muted autumnal shades and more traditional patterns.  She also makes bespoke commissions (currently cot quilts, pram or stroller quilts and lap quilts).  Handmade quilts make uniquely personal gifts for special occasions and, in some cases, become family heirlooms passed down through generations.

As well as making and selling her own patchworks, Devi is passionate about making it easy for other people to experience the enjoyment of creating their own, whether for the home or as a gift.  Hence Dorset Patchworks offers a growing stock of pre-cut fabric packs and other quilting products sourced from carefully selected suppliers from around the world.  Using pre-cut fabric makes the whole quilting process so much more straightforward and saves time.

We hope you like the quilts and fabrics on our website.  Should you have a question about anything you see, how to source a particular fabric or how to get started, please do let us know.  We would love to hear from you.
