The Dorchester Agricultural Society was formed in 1840. It now holds a number of different events throughout the year including the Main Show every September as well as the Spring Show in March or April, a Flock Competition in June or July, Sheep Dog Trials and a Ploughing Match in October.
To celebrate 175 years of the Dorchester Agricultural Society an Education Fund was launched in 2016, the 1840 Education Fund. This fund aims to encourage a better understanding of farming, horticulture, rural business and the countryside in Dorset. Grants are available towards travel costs for farm visits and capital projects. Find out more about the Fund and how to apply here.
