Dorchester Agricultural Society are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and committed Show Secretary to organise, manage and ensure the success of the two day Dorset County Show and associated events. The opportunity has arisen due to a change of role of the present post older who will be continuing his involvement.

The Society seeks an individual with excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills with experience of logistical planning. The ability to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, together with  a friendly, and professional approach will be vital.

Job Desription & Main Duties 

Dorset County Show Secretary 
Full Time -salaried role, including some evenings and weekends as the job requires Salary: £28,000-£35,000 depending on experience 

- Organise and run the successful two day annual Dorset County Show and other events. To raise the profile of Dorchester Agricultural Society

Work with the Board of Management to further the Society’s strategic objectives and enhance Membership of the Society.

Work in conjunction with the Show Council and  committees.

Manage the office – this may include one other staff member.

Manage and deal with correspondence for the show and events. Maintain accurate records, prepare show schedules and compile competition results.

Co-ordinate the booking, positioning and quality of trade exhibitors and stakeholders.

Research and source additional funding streams that may be available. Actively seek sponsorship, grants, and other income streams.

Monitor costs and work within budgets as set by the Board of Management.

Liaise with contractors to undertake the logistical planning and running of the Show, including competitive tendering processes.

Monitor legislation, regulations and Government Guidance.

Negotiate supplier contracts and arrange hire of equipment and facilities to enable the Show and other events to be held.

Maintain records and produce in conjunction with other office staff, all necessary documentation including schedules; guides; catalogues, competition results and similar such information.

Establish links with the local community.

Take an active role in the organisation and promotion of the Fabulous Food and Farming Fund.

Prepare press releases, newsletters and actively engage with local publications on a regular basis to promote the Show and other Society events.
