Job Title                           Working Showground Foreman

Reporting to                     Directly to the Show Secretar

Responsible for                Small team of self-employed “Ground Staff” and supervision of volunteers as directed by the Show Secretary

3. Job Description & Main Duties

During Show build & dismantle

  • Work to the agreed build plan as laid out by the Show Secretary.
  • Enforce the Show’s Health & Safety policy.
  • Communicate between the contractors/service provider and the Show Office.
  • Provide initial point of contact for contractors/service providers on site to answer basic queries, filtering more complex queries to the Show Secretary.
  • Monitor the progress of contractors and Service Providers.
  • Assist the various Show Committees with the build of their sections.
  • Co-ordinate the workload of the Show’s paid individuals who undertake “ground” duties, and work alongside these individuals as a team.
  • Co-ordinate the allocation of volunteer helpers

During Show

  • Act as the immediate point of contact for contractors/service providers on site
  • Monitor the status of contractors and Service Providers.
  • Allocate staff and volunteers to perform ongoing practical tasks
  • Co-ordinate with the Show Secretary to address emergency or unforeseen circumstances.

4. Terms

Working hours: One month contract (available annually) based on 56-63 hours per week, up to 7 days a week, limited evening work will occur.

Salary: £3,500 - £4.500 dependant on experience and ability. Mileage allowance and mobile phone contribution made.

WORKING SHOWGROUND FOREMAN

Annual short term contract

The Dorchester Agricultural Society is recruiting a foreman to manage the build and dismantle of Dorset County Show, held in September. The contract would be for a month from mid-August each year.

The role includes hands-on practical work, liaison with external contractors, project management and assisting with health and safety monitoring. A team player, you will liaise closely with and report to the Show Secretary, as well as working with paid ground staff and Show Volunteers.

Experience in project management, construction sites, tourism or estate management would be advantageous. The position requires strong time management and communication skills to meet established deadlines.

This is a challenging and exciting appointment, offering the opportunity to become involved in delivery of a prestigious show. Further information is available from the Show Secretary.
